Good detective work, not any flaws in the storylines and there isn't a bunch of violence and sex that doesn't move the story forward. And Mia is a great partner, they playoff each other really well. Ben Rehder is good with the quips and snappy repartee. I am looking forward to reading more about these folks.Product details

Get Busy Dying Roy Ballard Mysteries Book 2 edition by Ben Rehder Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I like this guys writing style. I like the personality he gave Roy, the sarcasm and dry wit. I like Roys girl. The storyline was good. The characters were all fleshed out and believable. The book is one of many excellent mystery thrillers penned by this author that I'll continue to devour and enjoy. I highly recommend this author no series.
This may be a biased review because I'm a big Ben Rehder fan. I consume everything he writes. He truly is a Texas version of Florida's own Carl Hiaasen. And that is high praise. In Get Busy Dying, the character of Roy Ballard is just funny enough. In other words, the jokes don't get in the way of the story.
I'll say again, if you're not reading Ben Rehder, you're missing some really fine reading! This is especially true if you're a native of Austin, Texas, where his mysteries are set. I find myself excited about getting back to reading his stories when I'm interrupted by, of all things, work! I can hardly wait to see what's going to happen next. Do yourself a favor. READ Ben Rehder's books!
This was an interesting mystery, Told in first person, very conversational. The plot revolved around a man dying in a car crash after he had taken a three million dollar insurance policy on himself. The insurance company wanted to know if fraud was evident. Through many twists and turns , it was a good read.
My first book by Ben Rehder & it will not be my last one. He is a terrific fast paced writer that does not bore you with more detail than is necessary for the telling of the story..
I fell in love with Roy & Mia & the story kept me wondering, not as to whether Boz was dead or alive, but who was an accomplice in the attempted fraud scheme with him.
The other fraud investigation was a hoot, & the arson investigation was a surprise as well.
Both Roy & Mia have a terrific sense of humor & great dialogue between them. I felt as though they were real people that I actually knew.
I would highly recommend this fast paced, easy & fun read. I hope his other books go on sale, because I will jump all over them.
There was a moment in this book where I thought, oh, no. He's run out of things to do or stories to tell so he has to bring the Blanco County mysteries into it. I was completely relieved that he didn't do this. Although he makes passing mention of it and some of the characters go there, they don't interact with any of the people from the Blanco County books or visit any of the same places. That would have been lazy on the author's part but he didn't go there. The mark of a great writer. I have been enjoying this series just as much as the Blanco County mysteries.
I wanted a light, fun read after slogging through a previous book that took a lot of time and thought to get through. This fit the bill. The story moves along quickly, there are enough twists and turns to keep any reader satisfied, and the main character is, what we call in the South, a hoot. He is witty and quick with his comebacks. His comely partner matches him barb for barb. Set in the Texas Hill Country, the book satisfies another joy of mine reading about "home." I'm not from Austin (I'm from Ft. Worth--where the west begins--Cowtown, USA) but I've spent enough time in the Texas capital to recognize the landmarks in this fun, fun novel. If crime novels are your thing, and your not ready to take on Crime and Punishment, then pick up Get Busy Dying. You'll be glad!
Good detective work, not any flaws in the storylines and there isn't a bunch of violence and sex that doesn't move the story forward. And Mia is a great partner, they playoff each other really well. Ben Rehder is good with the quips and snappy repartee. I am looking forward to reading more about these folks.
